The Reading: Collect for John Donne
John Donne, one of the great English poets of all time, is remembered today in our lectionary. Instead of a scripture reading, today we will reflect on the collect for John Donne: "Almighty God, the root and
fountain of all being: Open our eyes to see, with your servant John Donne,
that whatever has any being is a mirror in which we may behold you; through
Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

Questions for Reflection
What does it mean to think about God as "the root and fountain" of all being? What do those images (root and fountain) mean to you? Also, how do you see God in all the created order - flowers, trees, lakes, streams, mountains and deserts? How is all that "has any being a mirror in which we may behold" God?
